Musicastrada’s activity started in 2000 on the basis of a common idea, that is to put together workers of the show business i.g. musicians, sound & light engineers, photographers, designers, scene painters, video-makers, theatre technicians for a common objective: to organize culture events. Activities are deep-seated in 23 towns in the Province of Pisa and in other areas of Tuscany but a European extension is the objective.
Main events are: “Musicastrada Festival” and photo contest “Fotografando la Musica”.
Musicastrada Festival started in 2000 as an itinerant modern music festival (no limits genre, folk, ethnic, traditional, popular, blues, flamenco, jazz…), free of charge, with musicians coming from all UE and the Rest of the World, performing close to the audience in remarkable historical centres, places never reached by such events. The Festival starts in the second half of July and ends up during the last week of August (25/30 gigs). Quite every night the gigs are in a different town and each town is so different from the other even if so close. During Musicastrada Festival
one can breathe an atmosphere that involves musicians and audience as it happened long time ago. Music comes back to be a part of ordinary life. Musicians are not the only leading character but people themselves are also leading characters. There is not only an audience of experts or just music lovers but a variegated audience of different origins and different ages, all taking part in creating a familiar atmosphere where talking among people and musicians is natural, as usually it does not occur during the other festivals. Musicastrada Festival is the widest music network in
Italy (23 town members)
The photo competition “Fotografando la Musica” (born in 2004), is linked to Musicastrada Festival and collects pictures coming from both the Festival itself and other events. Topic is to catch “Music”: a concert, a ballet, a luthier, the audience and in general any image of sound or rhythm.
In the last few years Musicastrada has become a multimedial event, dedicated not only to music and photography but also to video, painting and art installations.
