Love and family have always been sources of inspiration for critically acclaimed singer/ songwriter/musician Carrie Rodriguez. Rodriguez’ journey from teenage violin student to touring the world with the likes of Chip Taylor (famed songwriter of “Wild Thing), Lucinda Williams and Alejandro Escovedo, has resulted in a prodigious output of recordings – eight albums in as many years – for the young musician; with the new album, Carrie relies on others to handle the songwriting duties, she provides the interpretations.

The incomparable Lewis Floyd Henry is just such a dude. In the age when MySpace and the blogosphere have become the conventional means of achieving rock stardom, this remarkable songwriter and performer has gone the ancient route of taking to the streets to broadcast his music. For the past few years, like a Mississippi bluesman in the early 20th century, Lewis has pitched up on street corners around London, at Brick Lane, Borough Market and the South Bank, every time trousering a pocket full of loose change, but also gradually spreading the knowledge of his extraordinary genius.

Born in New York City, guitarist and composer Jonathan Kreisberg has fond memories of a childhood steeped in music. “I was lucky to grow up in a household that had a great and wide-ranging record collection,” he recalls, “including Coltrane’s My Favorite Things, and Cream’s Disraeli Gears.” Jonathan worked in the bands of many jazz greats including Lee Konitz, Joe Locke, Dr. Lonnie Smith. He has also led groups of various instrumentations featuring artists such as Bill Stewart, Larry Grenadier, and Scott Wendholt.

Since its inception in August 2002, Le Vent du Nord have been enjoying rocketing success. They have received several prestigious awards, including a Juno. The band is now one of the most-loved Quebec folk outfits throughout the world. The group’s current line-up consists of singers / multi-instrumentalists Nicolas Boulerice, Simon Beaudry, Olivier Demers, and Réjean Brunet. Some of their songs come from traditional folk repertoire, while others are original compositions. On stage, these four friends achieve peaks of happiness they eagerly share with any and all audiences.

Ana Karina Rossi was born in Montevideo, Uruguay where she began to develop a passion for music from a very early age. She studied Piano and Musicology at the Escuela Universitaria de Música and entered the world of tango with Trio Sur. Ana Karina then collaborated with pianist and composer Alberto Magnone, giving the jazz-tango scene within Montevideo a refined repertoire of contemporary tangos written by Magnone, along with a large body of Astor Piazzolla’s avant-garde work.

The show displays a path through sounds and shapes of the Gypsy traditions crossing Europe: Hungarian Czardas, Valse Musette, Swing, Romanian Hora,Albanian songs and many others. This heterogeneous musical landscape extending from France to the Balkans up to the countries of Eastern Europe through Alsace, former Yugoslavia, Albania, Serbia, Romania, is blended into a sound typical of the swing manouche French as a tribute to the musician Django Reinhardt and his Folk, the Gypsies, unique witnesses of the extraordinary variety and richness of musical languages animating European culture.
